why is prp better than fillers for the under-eye area?

Article at a glance

Is PRP better than fillers for your under-eye area? Yes and No. And in this article, I’ll briefly explain why you should use dermal fillers with caution beneath your eyes.

You already know that dermal fillers are a great way to replace lost volume in the face, so it would seem that fillers would be the natural first choice for correcting under-eye concerns. This is especially so for the “hollowed eye” appearance that can develop as we age.  Not everyone is a candidate for under eye filler and this is where Platelet Rich Plasma or Platelet Rich Fibrin can play a pivotal roll for correcting dark circles.

To treat this most sensitive area of the face, we utilise platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF)

Under eye fillers – what can go wrong?

We have a large selection of dermal fillers, allowing us to select the correct product(s) to suit your particular problems and meet your objectives.

Many of these products contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occuring chemical that aids in the retention of moisture in the skin and connective tissues.

So why don’t we suggest them for the area around the eyes? Let me explain.

We don’t suggest them because the skin surrounding our eyes is among the thinnest and most delicate on our bodies, even little imperfections may be quite obvious.

Our skin thins as we age, and our face loses volume, particularly in the cheeks.

Bulging “bags,” a hollowing of the tear trough, and even black circles might arise from fat behind the eyelids moving downward.

The purpose of injecting facial fillers in this area is to provide volume to the sunken area, reducing the baggy appearance below.

Prolonged post-injection swelling, on the other hand, might make results seem bloated and overdone in certain people, rather than smooth and young. If too much filler is injected, this can also happen. Improperly applied facial filler can leave the skin looking lumpy or uneven in the long run, and it can also refract light from below, giving it a blue colour.

We need to remember that the outcomes of under-eye fillers can be influenced by your facial shape and skin health.

Unskilled injection is unfortunately one of the most prevalent reasons of under-eye filler issues. To inject any filler effectively and securely, you’ll need anatomical knowledge, as well as expertise and experience. Because the eye region is so delicate, selecting the correct provider is all the more important. My 14+ years experience should give you peace of mind, that you’ll be in safe hands.

PRP/PRF treatment is natural

PRP/PRF therapy involves administering a substance derived from your own blood, making it completely natural.

This means there is no possibility of an allergy or other negative reaction.

The operation is straightforward and takes little time.

We take a little sample of your blood and spin it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets, which are proteins that carry the growth factors that are necessary for healing.

To obtain your desired outcomes, we refine that pure platelet serum and carefully inject it in precisely the proper areas.

The outcomes are also all-natural. Unlike a filler, platelet-rich plasma encourages your body’s own development of localised blood vessels and new skin cells with better collagen structure. Because building new collagen and cells takes time, it may take a few weeks to see your new look.

While you will notice improvements right away, completely noticeable effects may take a few weeks.

The danger of blindness is virtually nil if PRP/PRF is accidently injected into a vessel behind your eye.

PRP/PRF is a considerably safer alternative to dermal fillers, and the results are often superior to those obtained with dermal fillers.

I look forward to working with you and guiding you through your PRP/PRF treatment decisions.
